THE VIFLY GUIDE · CHOOSE AN ACTIVITY
Earning online.
Keep your eyes open.
Fake jobs, overlooked margins and promises of easy income: learn to recognise warning signs before committing your money and time.
Who pays you,
and for what?
A real buyer, a verifiable service.
A payment required to unlock earnings.
DECISIONS THAT PROTECT YOUR PROJECT
What to avoid when earning
income online?
A demanding activity can be legitimate. An attractive pitch can conceal a loss. Examine how you are paid, the costs and the responsibilities.
Paying to unlock work or wages
The signal. Simple tasks are followed by a request for a deposit to unlock a balance.
The right response. Stop sending money and verify the company through another channel. If you have paid, contact your bank promptly, keep the evidence and use the official reporting procedures.
Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr · task scam ↗Recruitment becomes the real product
The signal. Most of the advertised earnings depend on new paying members joining.
The right response. Ask who actually buys what without recruiting. Pyramid selling is prohibited; not every affiliate arrangement is a pyramid scheme.
DGCCRF · pyramid schemes and MLM ↗Confusing a turnover screenshot with income
The signal. A video shows sales without purchases, advertising, returns, contributions or working hours.
The right response. Work through the full economics. Also model fewer sales and higher costs before making a financial commitment.
INSEE · self-employed income 2024 ↗Buying stock or advertising before gathering evidence
The signal. The budget goes into the shop, logo or campaigns before anyone has confirmed the problem.
The right response. Start by presenting an honest test offer. Check suppliers, total costs, delivery and after-sales service before increasing orders.
DGCCRF · dropshipping responsibilities ↗Selling rights you do not own
The signal. Copied templates, unlicensed music, reused client photos or AI content resold without checks.
The right response. List the necessary usage and distribution rights. Check licences and permissions; consult the AI guide for generated content.
Ministry of the Economy · copyright and image rights ↗Promoting an offer without disclosing your commercial interest
The signal. A recommendation looks like impartial advice even though a sale may earn you money.
The right response. Make the commercial relationship visible and understandable, check the rules applying to the content and retain evidence supporting your claims.
French Ministry for the Economy · commercial influence ↗Assuming a tool handles the seller's obligations
The signal. A payment platform or supplier is presented as taking responsibility for everything on your behalf.
The right response. Check your professional identity information, pre-purchase disclosures, invoicing, customer rights and the rules specific to your activity. Hosting does not replace these formalities.
Service Public · selling online ↗Selling expertise you do not have
The signal. A programme encourages you to become a coach or trainer immediately after buying it.
The right response. Start with a demonstrable skill and an honest scope. Professional training has specific formalities; regulated professions require the appropriate qualifications.
Service Public · training activity declaration ↗BEFORE SIGNING OR PAYING
Get the offer across
through these five questions.
- Who actually pays?
Does an identifiable client buy an understandable service or product?
- What do I need to pay upfront?
List joining fees, tools, stock, advertising and refund conditions. A payment requested by a fake employer to unlock work is a major warning sign.
- What evidence can I verify?
Company identity, contract, a real demonstration and clients who have agreed to be named. An earnings screenshot does not replace these checks.
- Which obligations remain my responsibility?
Quality, deadlines, rights, returns, data and declarations do not disappear because a platform is involved.
- Can I say no without pressure?
Artificial urgency, enforced secrecy or guilt should make you slow down and seek an independent opinion.
BEFORE THE FIRST SALE
A professional framework
suited to your activity.
French guidance checked on the guide's verification date. The applicable regime depends on your profession, customers and circumstances; consult the sources and get help where needed.
Register and invoice
Choose the appropriate framework, check the formalities and organise quotes, invoices and payment tracking. Receiving payment online does not make the activity invisible.
Official procedures ↗Inform and respect the customer
Clarify the seller's identity, offer, price, deadlines and applicable rights. A digital product does not automatically exclude the right of withdrawal.
Online selling rules ↗Check the rules of the profession
Coaching does not remove the qualification requirements of a regulated activity. Vocational training has its own formalities; a platform does not create eligibility for funding.

QUESTIONS BEFORE CHOOSING
Straight answers.
Which activity should a beginner choose to earn money online?
Start with a problem you already know how to solve and a group of people you can reach. A focused service may be easier to test than a shop or a complete course. Without a skill ready to sell, begin by learning and producing evidence of your work; do not sell expertise you do not have.
Can you start without an audience and on a small budget?
Yes, certain services, qualified consulting and UGC creation can be sold to identified customers without depending on your follower count. You still need time, suitable equipment, prospecting and a professional framework. Having no audience does not mean there is no sales work.
How much can you earn from an online activity?
There is no universal income figure. The price, the number of sales actually paid for, costs, time and the rules applying to your activity all affect the result. The research figures in this guide have a specific scope; the calculator only shows the consequences of the assumptions you enter.
Can AI create passive income for me?
AI can help you write, edit or organise work. You still need to choose a problem, find clients, check quality, respect rights and provide follow-up. Generated content is not evidence of market demand. Compare tools in the Useful Resources guide for a specific task.
What is the difference between remote employment and self-employment?
Remote working describes where you work, not an income model. An employee is hired for a job; a self-employed person sells a service or product and bears the costs and administrative responsibilities. This guide compares self-employed activities. If you want a salary, also look at job vacancies and verify the employer.
