Deepfakes on Facebook: a binding decision and further protections

No official announcements sufficiently concrete 24 hours does not deserve to replace this signal published on the 17 september and always immediately useful. Meta's Supervisory Board imposes the removal of a hate deepfake on Facebook and recommends stronger protections against the dissemination and monetization of misleading content generated by IA.

Our method: distinguishing facts, citing sources and calmly explaining what can really change for creators, independent and digital professionals.

The Supervisory Board imposes on Meta the withdrawal of a hate deepfake on Facebook

In a decision published on September 17, Meta's Supervisory Board cancelled the online maintenance of a video generated by IA falsely showing a Scottish local elected woman making hate speech about refugees. The withdrawal of this publication is binding on Meta under its rules on hate behaviour. The Commission also considers that the rules for the labelling of deepfakes are insufficient and recommends that the use of the "High Risk AI" label be expanded, that a warning screen be added, that these contents be demolished and demolished, that they be removed from the recommendations and that repeat accounts be progressively sanctioned. These general developments are recommendations: their implementation by Meta is not yet confirmed.

What it can change: If your image or voice is used in a deepfake, keep immediately the URL, captures, date and statistics visible, and report separately the usurpation, harassment and hate speech. Do not consider a simple AI label as a withdrawal guarantee.
