OpenAI takes on a compromise between wide access and risks: set your own limits

A single sufficiently solid and distinct information deserves the release today: Sam Altman explains the compromise that OpenAI defends between wide access and non-disaster risks. This positioning is important for anyone who delegates actions sensitive to an AI.

Our method: distinguishing facts, citing sources and calmly explaining what can really change for creators, independent and digital professionals.

Sam Altman defends broad access to AI despite non-disabling risks

In an interview to POLITICO Decoded reported on October 4 by Reuters, Sam Altman states that the benefits of wide access to AI justify accepting certain abuses, scams or incidents, while excluding catastrophic risks and loss of control. It contrasts this lighter regulatory approach with a concentration of access between a few laboratories. This is a governance position, without new product or deployment. This comment sheds light on the disagreement about the acceptable level of risk, but does not ensure that these risks are controlled.

What it can change: Classify the actions entrusted to the AI according to their consequences: Keep a human validation for publications, customer data, payments and deletions, then limit the rights, log the actions and test first in an isolated environment.
