Gemini now chooses the free account model itself: what it changes for your results

No more solid official announcement has been published in the last 24 hours. This edition therefore retains the Gemini change that came into effect on October 9: personal accounts without subscription move to an automatic model selection, which can vary the power used and the reproducibility of the same work.

Gemini imposes automatic model selection on free personal accounts

Google indicates that since October 9, Gemini users with a personal account and without a Google AI subscription have the default setting of Auto. Gemini then selects the most suitable model for each request: the majority of requests are sent to Flash-Lite, presented as the fastest model, while requests requiring more reasoning can be assigned to Flash or Pro. If smart selection is disabled, all responses use Flash‐Lite. The change applies in areas where Gemini Apps and the models concerned are available; the official page does not provide a country list specific to this change.

What it can change: For an analysis, client document or important content, check the template in the response details, keep the prompt and sources, and then compare the critical results. The same free prompt can be routed to different models; If you disable Auto, you prefer Flash-Lite's constancy but give up point routing to Flash or Pro.
