Selling AI content: three rights to check.
A Download button says neither whether you may sell the file nor whether others may reuse it. Build an offer with rights and a promise you can substantiate.

The short answer
Copyright and selling
There is no blanket ban on selling content because AI helped create it. Check the service license, third-party rights and your commercial presentation. Permission for commercial use is not automatic copyright protection.
These guideposts distinguish the status of a rule; 'Pause and check' calls for review before acting.
Three gates before selling
Tool terms
May I use and redistribute this output?
Third-party rights
Do I have permission for reused elements?
My contribution and promise
Which rights and exclusivity can I substantiate?
From rule to practice
What does that look like in practice?
A generated illustration substantially composed by you
You build a series with your own design choices and materials you have rights to.
Check tool terms, third-party elements and the license promised. Record your contribution without claiming automatic protection.
A logo pack closely resembling an existing brand
The output reproduces recognizable distinctive elements.
Do not sell the pack as unrestricted. Rework it and have the risk assessed for the intended use.
An ebook written with AI assistance
You sell a method and explanations to beginners.
Check facts, sources, excerpts and the promise. State usage rights and do not sell fictional expertise or exclusivity.
What the tool actually permits
Read the terms applying to your account and generation date: commercial use, redistribution, uploaded materials, restrictions and warranties. A paid plan does not automatically remove every limit. Keep the relevant terms and project records.
For client work, distinguish permission to deliver a file, rights you can assign and externally licensed elements. Do not promise absolute exclusivity solely because you can download an output.
AI does not clear other people’s rights
An uploaded photo, reproduced illustration, visible trademark, music or identifiable person may retain protection. Generating a variation does not guarantee the result is unrestricted. Examine recognizable elements and permissions before selling.
For another person’s work, a general idea, style, concrete expression and unfair competition are different issues. No prompt formula makes every imitation lawful. A project reproducing distinctive elements needs careful assessment.
Your creative contribution matters
The CSPLA report published in July 2026 distinguishes hybrid creation, potentially protected when human choices meet originality requirements, from purely synthetic output without significant human intervention. It explains the law; it is not itself a new law or a ruling on your file.
Keep the stages where you made expressive choices: conception, selection, composition, rewriting, retouching and integration. Prompt history is not automatic certification. You need to explain your contribution and identify it in the result.
Describe honestly what the buyer receives
Describe format, content, permitted uses and limits of the license sold. If you claim original human work, exclusivity or verified data, ensure it is true. A generated and resold ebook remains subject to sales rules and consumer rights.
For a course, check knowledge, examples, exercises and educational quality. AI may help prepare lessons; it proves neither expertise nor guaranteed learner results. Provide genuine review before selling.
Wording to get started
Disclosures to adapt to your case.

Before taking action
Your essential checks.
A preparation aid, with no automatic compliance verdict.
Getting to the point
Questions people often ask.
Does a paid AI plan grant every right?
No. Read the license and check third-party rights; payment alone guarantees neither exclusivity nor freedom from infringement.
Does a prompt alone make me the author?
It is not automatic proof. Assessment concerns originality and human creative choices perceptible in the result.
Can you sell a course prepared with AI?
AI assistance does not itself prohibit selling it. Rights, facts, service quality and sales promises still need checking.
