VIFLY EntrepreneurshipPractical guide

Choosing your creator business status: start with the right questions, not the acronyms.

No single status is best in every situation. A useful comparison starts with your creator business activity, expenditure, target revenue and the people involved.

The 7 questions to ask before comparing

Respond in writing: this prevents you from choosing a structure without having defined your needs.

  • What exactly are you selling, to whom, where and at what price?
  • Are you working on your own, or are you planning to bring in partners, investors or arrange a business handover?
  • Are your actual costs low, regular or significant?
  • Is your creator business regulated, or does it require insurance, a qualification or a licence?
  • What income do you want to earn, and what other resources or support do you need to take into account?
  • Will you be selling to private individuals, online, internationally or exclusively to businesses?
  • What realistic growth do you expect over the next twelve months?

A suggestion is not a verdict

Micro-enterprises, sole traders (EI), single-member limited liability companies (EURL) and simplified single-member limited liability companies (SASU) are tools. Their suitability depends on your specific situation.

  • Test a simple scenario, then a growth scenario: costs, VAT, revenue, protection and management.
  • Rule out any options that are incompatible with a business partner or a regulated activity.
  • Get advice on the tax, social security and wealth management implications based on your personal circumstances.
